Valley Forge Muster Roll Wants To Hear Your Story
by Melissa Jacobs
America’s 250th anniversary is in July 2026 and, as part of the big celebration, Valley Forge Muster Roll and Tredyffrin Township Historical Commission are looking for families that contributed to the Revolutionary War in Chester County. Those families – their ancestors, homes and histories – could be featured in the organizations’ celebration of America’s 250th.
The Battle of Brandywine, the Battle of Paoli, and the Encampment at Valley Forge are just some of the Revolutionary War events that took place in Chester County. And of course, the region has many historic homes, barns and other structures that date back to 1777 or earlier.

Think you have a connection to the Revolutionary War? Here are a few questions that Valley Forge Muster Roll and Tredyffrin Township Historical Commission posed.
- Was your ancestor at the Valley Forge Encampment?
- Do you live in a historic home or have a historic structure that was here in 1777-1778 during the Valley Forge Encampment?
- Do you know of ancestors whose property was impacted by British occupation in September 1777 or assisted the Continental Army during the time of the Encampment?
- If so, how were they affected?
Send your story and contact information to musterroll@vfparkalliance.org and one of the organization’s volunteers will get in touch with you.
Valley Forge Muster Roll, a project of the Valley Forge Park Alliance, is dedicated to people who were at the Continental Army’s winter encampment from December 19, 1777, to June 19, 1778. The Continental Army used monthly muster rolls to track the army’s strength. Each roll contains names, ranks, dates of enlistment, and other notes on soldiers’ assignments, activities, or conditions. For more information, visit the Muster Roll’s website.
