Küf Knotz and Christine Elise Perform in Ardmore on March 10
by Melissa Jacobs
Küf Knotz and Christine Elise, the dynamic duo that combine harp, beats and lyrics, are hosting a vinyl release party for their new album on March 10 at 7 pm at The Living Room in Ardmore. The Sunday night jam includes sets from Angelo Outlaw and Buscrates, plus DJ Marley Biz. Find tickets here.
The evening will be a homecoming for Küf Knotz and Christine Elise. Küf is a native of Bryn Mawr; Christine graduated from and teaches at Immaculata University. Together, they create unique music that blends Küf’s hip-hop poetry with deep grooves of soul, while sun-kissed beats are laced with Christine’s melodic harp and ethereal vocals.
Hypnagogia is the name of Küf and Christine’s new album and it definitely casts a spell over listeners. “It takes you on a journey into different illusions and has a surrealism vibe,” Christine Elise explained. “The music and its imagery sweep you away.”
While Küf and Christine love to collaborate with other musicians, they decided not to do that on Hypnagogia. “It’s a departure from our previous music because it is fully created by Christine and myself with no outside artists,” Küf said. “It is our most authentic and heartfelt work. We explored new sounds, but they have the same themes of hope, joy, and positivity.”
Küf and Christine crafted Hypnagogia at Morningstar Studios in Plymouth Meeting. “I created the beats, Christine played the harp, keys, and some other instruments. And we love it,” Küf said. “We were able to produce what we heard in our heads.”
While waiting for the vinyl to get pressed, the duo went on an extended tour of the United States. “Hawaii was magical,” Küf said. “We made a lot of connections and enjoyed that time, that place and those people.”
Küf and Christine also did an artists’ residency on Bainbridge Island in Seattle, living in a nature preserve for three weeks to create music and film the video for “Rotation,” their second single from Hypnagogia. They have more touring in store for spring, including stops in Nashville, Knoxville, and Cincinnati. “We aim to keep going and expand far and wide,” Christine said. “We want to spread the energy and we really enjoy interacting with audiences.”
While “Hypnagogia” is a new beginning for Küf and Christine, it is an end for The Living Room. The Living Room’s owner Laura Mann announced that she’ll close the award-winning space at the end of April. “I would like to work on my own music, travel the country, and spend more time with loved ones, because as time goes by, that becomes more precious to me,” she wrote in a statement.
This will be Küf and Christine’s last performance in the space. “It was vibey,” Küf says about The Living Room. “It held about 150 people, which is perfect for us. It was a sweet spot and we’ll miss it.”
Küf and Christine aren’t sure when they will come back to the Main Line area, so fans should grab tickets for The Living Room show before it sells out. Get more information here.
